Hi XXXX! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
No this is not nromal. I would suggest you to see your obstetrician for a physical examination and a possible ultrasound of abdomen for a diagnosis and further management. It might not be possible to suggest the treatment on line in such cases. Wishing her an early recovery.

Brief Answer:
Need to exclude a few common conditions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good afternoon.

I had suggested you to see the obstetrician because any part of a retained placenta post delivery could give rise to such bleeding, and also some of the retained clots might come out this way. One has to make sure that there are no more clots left inside which is not very infrequent. A physical examination along with an ultrasound abdomen could clear this.

I hope I have cleared your doubt. Good luck.

My 36 year old friend gave birth 6 days ago to an infant who has had to stay in the nursery due to breathing difficulties. She has stayed with her, working daily to get breastfeeding going. She tells me by phone tonight that her lochia smells strong (though the midwife smelled it and said it was OK); she passed two clots the size of tangerines today, and her feet have swollen up, which they never did during her pregnancy. She says she still looks pregnant (thought she did not gain an excess amount of weight during pregnancy). She does not feel ill. I told her to go to the hospital's emerg dept if she feels unwell or develops a fever. I am concerned about retained placenta. What should I tell her to do?

I had a baby 18 weeks ago. I had my first period at the beginning of Feb and it was normal. I m now 3 days into my second period and I m passing clots that look like liver . They aren t huge, probably finger tip size. I had some retained placenta after giving birth that had to be manually removed. Do you think these clots are normal or something to be concerned about? Thanks.

Hi. I gave birth 17 months ago. I had a retained placenta for a month before I hemmoragged and had to have a d and c. We have been trying to conceive for a year now with no luck. First baby was the first month. I had a hsg dye test 2 months ago that came back normal. Does that mean everything should be ok then since the hsg test was normal and the infection didn t do any harm?! I m very worried I won t be able to have another baby
