What Causes Clogged Ears With Hearing Loss?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: I am 43 years old. Female. My right ear feels full or clogged with decreased hearing (I think). It rings occasionally. I had it looked at a few months ago and was told it isnt wax build-up and was dismissed. I also have post nasal drip all the time. I'm starting to worry becuase I can't get it to go away. To be completely honest, I haven't tried any one home remedy for very long but I'm tired of feeling like this so I need some advice on what to do. This has been going on for almost a year.

Brief Answer:
Cerumen impaction

Detailed Answer:
thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been having hearing loss for over 1 year and you were told it was from wax build up. This is the most common cause of hearing loss and is easily treated at home. I recommend you purchase a medication called colace. You can find it in the constipation aisle in the stores. If the liquid is available use it but if it is capsules you will have to clip the end off the capsule. you place 2-3 drops of the colace in your ear and allow it to stay there for 10-15 minutes. then gently with a a little water wash the ear canal out. that should help loosen the wax and allow it to run out.

If this does not help then you will need to see your medical provider who can remove the wax and check your ear drum for any additional pathology

Brief Answer:
Yes try the ear wax removal first

Detailed Answer:
Yes I would try the ear wax removal first and then if it not better then you need to see a doctor. Without getting good visualization of the eardrum we can't diagnose your problem. Also if wax is in the ear it will affect any hearing tests. So by cleaning the ears of all wax you will be doing yourself some good and possibly fixing your problem and helping the doctor find your condition more easily.
