default
Posted on Wed, 1 Oct 2014
Question: My boyfriend (he's 17, Im just a worried girlfriend) has been coughing and throwing up blood for a few days now, this makes him pass out and he can't feel his body for about ten minutes. He also feels like he can't breathe when this happens. He went to a local doctor but they said there was nothing they could do to treat it and he could die from it, is this true?

Brief Answer:
Depends on the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Most times the blood in cough is due to allergy or bronchitis.

It is hard to figure out diagnosis from the query. It needs examination and tests like endoscopy etc.

Prognosis will depend on the cause. Most bleeds stop spontaneously. Some bleeds may not stop depending on the cause.

I would suggest that your boyfriend follows up with his treating doctor or specialist regularly. He also needs to talk to his parents or caregivers about it.

Hope it helps.
