What Causes Chest Pain With Normal EKG?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: here is my question. Over the past couple of years at least I've been experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. About six months ago or so I was prescribed xanax 0.5 mg. I can take up to 4 per day but in only take one at midday and one at night time before going to bed. Now, I suffer from chest pain in my left side almost regularly for many months now. I have gone to see a cardiologist and have had a 24 hour holter monitor, a stress test , 2 EKGs , an echocardiogram and other blood test. All came normal according to the doctor. I had kidney stones surgery this July and ever since then my pressure average has been about 125 over 86 or so. Sometimes better , but most of the time a little high. My question is , why do I constantly have the chest pain ?? Why doesn't go away ? I read about angina, could this be a misdiagnosed angina ? . It hurst when I breath or move. Help please. By the way i'm a male 43 years old.

Hello,

Thanks for using health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

However I would require a couple of more details to help you in answering your query in a better justified way.

1. Is the chest pain episodic or continuous?
2. Is there any ongoing stressor?
3. Any substance or drug use?

Hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.

Regards and wish you good health,

Brief Answer:
Could be a musculoskeletal

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the additional information.
I have gone through your detail and considering the fact that the EKG and echocardiogram has come normal, it suggests that the cause may not be cardiac. Moreover the fact that the pain increases or decreases depending on breathing and movement, it suggests that the cause could be musculoskeletal. It could have something to do with your posture. Cardiac pain and pains due to anxiety will never increase with the change in posture.
I would like to suggest that you should get an X-ray chest and if possible an x-ray of spine. Also a consultation with a physiotherapist may also help you as you may require some exercises for your back and chest.
Hope this helps,
Kind regards
