What Causes Chest Pain While Walking?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: Since last two days I am having pain in my right breast on the left hand side. The pain can be felt when I am brisk walking/ coughing/ bending over/ moving my arm/ deep breath. It is localized on one spot in breast and the sensation can be felt in under arm, upper back in the right hand on in the last finger in right hand.

The only thing I can recollect is that I have been doing a lot of housework that requires constant pressure on my right hand in the last few days as also my periods are due.

Could you pls suggest a medicine. Pls note my right breast is normal in shape and is not tender, there is no discharge or anything and I cant feel any lump. Thanks

Brief Answer:
I think you are in the right track in your treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXX ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

As per your history, the pain occurs mostly while on movements like bending, coughing and the like. This points to a musculo-fascial strain causing the pain, which might have happened while doing some kind of work that put your muscles on stretch.

If I were your doctor, I would advise you for an anti inflammatory with a muslce relaxant along with a proton pump inhibitor drug for a symptomatic relief for a few days which would relieve you of this problem. Non the less, I would not hesitate to advise you for a clinical examination of your breasts to rule out any other pathological condition.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
