Question: I have chest pains since February. I have had a stress test it was normal. I was diagnosed with costochondritis. They also said it was my fibromyalgia. I am still having a fast heart rate. Could there still be something going on with my heart?

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms do not seem to be related to any cardiac disorders.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your chest pain, it could be related to costochondritis and fibromyalgia. The fact that your cardiac stress test has resulted normal, is another argument that excludes any cardiac disorders related to this symptomatology.

Regarding your high heart rate, it could be explained by different causes:

- chronic anemia
- low blood potassium
- inflammation related to arthritis
- anxiety
- thyroid dysfunction, etc.

I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests:

- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends during the day
- blood electrolytes to evaluate potassium levels
- thyroid hormone levels.

If all the above tests result normal, there is nothing to worry about. You should consider anxiety as the main cause of your elevated heart rate.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
