Brief Answer:
sounds like bronchitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Cough that brings up a lot of sputum is most frequently bronchitis. If it were something more serious like pneumonia you would have a fever and shortness of breath. Bronchitis is often viral and goes away on its own in a week to ten days. You need to push the fluids and take motrin or tylenol as tolerated for the aches. If you develop fever you should be checked by a physcian to make sure you have not developed pneumonia which would need antibiotics. If you are getting worse in any way you should see a physician.
If you are not better in 10-14 days then you should also be seen to make sure that something more serious is not occurring.
I hope you get well soon,
Dr. Robinson
