Posted on Thu, 5 Jun 2014
Question: Doctor, my 4 year old's teeth were in bad condition. So he had to undergo two pulpotomy and some crowns. A month later, he is complaining of some pain in cheek while eating. It is on and off. But pain seems to be getting lesser now. But am worried is it a nerve issue as docs could not see any sweeling or cut in the cheek. Please let me know if you have come accross this.

Brief Answer:
cheek biting, round off the shar edges of crown,

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query, i have gone through your query.

The pain in the cheek could be because of the chronic cheek biting by the sharp edges in the crown or teeth. Even though it wont produce ulcer or break it can produce pain.

The other reason could be any obstruction in the salivary gland duct secondary to any bacterial infection or stone in the duct.

Nothing to worry, consult your oral physician and rule out the cause. If there is any sharp edges reduce it or smoothen it. If there is a stone in the duct opening or within the duct get it removed by milking the duct or by surgical method.

I hope my answer will help you. take care.

Doctor but the pain is not always, now and then. So the stone in the duct could have come due to the pulpotomy? Is it complicated to remove? Milking the duct is not a surgical procedure? The pain though seems to be reducing, what does that indicate?

Brief Answer:
cheek biting, other problems in neighbour teeth

Detailed Answer:
since you are telling pain in the cheeks these are the possible causes. stone will not come because of pulpotomy. the stones usually comes because of the stagnant salivary secretion with bacterial colonization. milking the gland duct is not surgical procedure.
you consult a oral physician and rule out any other problems with the neighboring teeth, any ulcers or break in the mucosa or gum infection. sometimes referred pain can come from the teeth.
the decrease in intensity of the pain could be because of the relaxation period between the cheek biting.
