Question: I sometimes have cramps in my calf muscles when sleeping. How much potassium is good to take for relief?
Answered by Dr. Chander Mohan Singh 58 minutes later
Brief Answer:
Get electrolyte investigated first.

Detailed Answer:

I have read your query.

Leg cramps are not solely due to potassium, but its due to imbalance between sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Cramps occur due to electrolyte imbalance.

In my opinion, you should first get levels of these checked and then think of potassium tablet in take.

Only intake of potassium supplement will not help.

You also have fresh fruits and properly hydrate yourself.

Have tab. levocarnitine by prescription of your family doctor, its very important component of muscles.

You can also discuss all these with your family doctor.

Do yoga daily.

Avoid prolong standing and walking.

I hope you got the point.
