Brief Answer:
It may be hormonal mediated. Estrogen creams may help

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear. Vaginal burning can be due to several causes.

1. Bacterial vaginosis
2. Sexually transmitted infections like genital herpes, gonorrhoea etc
3. Yeast infection- candidiasis
4. Symptom of menopause- decrease in estrogen levels will cause this
5. Chemical irritants- A number of chemical substances, including creams, douches, condoms, contraceptive foams, laundry detergents, soaps, scented toilet paper, and fabric softeners can irritate the vagina and vulva

Since your symptoms are cyclical, it can be due to hormonal changes, that is decrease in the amount of estrogens. But the possibility of infections also has to be ruled out.

Vaginal irritation will often get better on its own. However, if the irritation continues, is severe, or comes back after treatment, call for an appointment with your doctor. The doctor can do a pelvic exam.

How vaginal discomfort is treated depends on what condition is causing the problem:

1. Vaginosis and STDs are treated with antibiotics/antiparasitics.
2. Yeast infections are treated with antifungal medications. They are inserted into the vagina in the form of creams, ointments, or suppositories, or they are taken orally
3. Menopause-related itching may be treated with estrogen cream, tablets, or a vaginal ring insert.
4. Other types of itching and irritation respond to steroid creams or lotions, which reduce inflammation.

Here are a few tips for preventing and treating vaginal irritation at home:

1. Avoid scented pads or toilet paper, creams, bubble bath, feminine sprays, and douches.
2. Use water and a plain, unscented soap to regularly clean your external genital area. But don't wash more than once a day. Doing so can increase dryness.
3. Always wipe from front to back after having a bowel movement.
4. Wear cotton panties (no synthetic fabrics), and change your underwear every day.
5. Do not douche.
6. Change the diapers of infant girls regularly.
7. Use condoms during sexual intercourse to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
8. If you are experiencing vaginal dryness, use a vaginal moisturizer. Apply a water-based lubricant (K-Y, Astroglide) before having sex.
9. Avoid sexual intercourse until your symptoms improve.
10. Don't scratch -- you can further irritate the area.

Brief Answer:
Blood in urine is common in UTI. Antibiotics required for 1 week

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear. Little bit of blood in urine is very common in UTI. You need not worry for it. Just take antibiotic course for 1 week or as prescribed by your doctor. You will be fine. Generally Urinary tract infection is treated with Tab. Norflox twice a day for one week or Tab. Septran twice a day for one week. Along with it the doctor may also prescribe syrup citralka or alkasol to make the urine more clear. If your UTI is not getting better even after treatmet with antibiotics then the doctor may suggest urine culture to see which organism is causing it and what is the drug which is sensitive to the organism.

Hope i have answered your questions. Please let me know if there are any more concerns. Regards- Dr Sanjay kini

Can you run a low grade fever with simple uti or should I be concerned about my kidneys I currently do not have back pain once again thanks for your assistance

Brief Answer:
Low grade fever common with UTI. Need not worry about kidney probs

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear. Low grade fever or sometimes high grade fever is very common in UTI. UTI will subside once you take a one week course of antibiotics. You dont have to worry about your kidneys unless you have repeated UTI and signs of kidney damage like swelling of legs, swelling of face etc.

In your case i dont think you should be worried about that. Its just a simple UTI. In any case if you have some doubt you can get a blood test for Kidney function tests- urea, creatinine. If it is within normal limits you can be assured that there is no problem with the kidneys.

Thanks for timely reply urine culture was performed prior to starting antibiotics culture came back negative do I continue with antibiotics also if not infection what causes WBC in urine
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sanjay Kini (10 hours later)
Brief Answer:
yes, antibiotics have to be continued

Detailed Answer:
Sometimes organisms doesnt grow in culture media and the result may come negative. That doesnt mean infection isnt there. Antibiotics have to be taken for 1 week or as prescribed by your doctor. So kindly take antibiotics.

Whenever there is some infection WBC's will be seen there to fight against infection. So since you have urine infection, WBC's are seen in urine..
