What Causes Burning Sensation In The Chest While On Famotidine?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Feb 2017
Question: I have been burping and making myself burp (because I feel like I need to) since yesterday morning. It is driving me crazy. A few hours ago I felt a slight tinge of burning in my chest sternum, so I purchased famotidine. What is causing the burping and release of gas every 5-20 minutes and what should I do. I am otherwise healthy and have not done anything out of ordinary except experience a lot of stress since the new year started, new stress.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to Reflux .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it looks like Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).
Stress is one of the causative factor.
Instead of Famotidine,I will prescribe Omrprazole 40mg once daily before food. You can get it OTC with brand name Prilosec.
Avoid pain killers, spicy food, carbonated drinks.
If available OTC, you can take Sucralfate syrup 10ml 3 times a day.
If there is no response, you should consult your doctor and get an Upper GI endoscopy.
Hope I answered your query.
Regards
