Question: hello , I have been having terrible burning and pain in my abdomen , its also very bloated , now I noticed I feel palpitations on and off and shortness of breath which feels like its coming from my abdominal area . I have had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago when these problems started and was told IBS . I also had a holter monitor and bubble echo study done this week due to vertigo related migraines . It was normal . Can gastritis and IBS cause the type of symptoms im having? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Possibly due to gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the Day
Burning pain especially located in Epigastric (Upper abdomen midline), bloating( Likely to be due to gastric distension), and shortness of breath( possibly due to reflux of acidic content into oesophagus causing reflex spasm of oesophagus) suggest the possibility of acid peptic disease.
Irritable bowel syndrome is diagnosis of exclusion, when extensive investigation are done for gastrointestinal symptoms and no organic cause is found, its labelled as IBS.

I would suggest the following which will provide the much needed relief
1. Combination Of pantoprozole( Proton pump inhibitor which suppresses gastric acid) and Domperidone( gastric motility increasing) taken twice a day will be beneficial.
2. Regular intake of meals
3. Avoid caffeinated /carbonated beverages
4. Avoid spicy/oily food
5. Consume high fibre diet: 2 servings of vegetable salad a day

In case you require any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care

Hello thank you . I have currently been taking Prevacid 15 mg once a day for a year . Can the shortness of breath be caused by an allergy ? I can take a deep breath but the shortness of breath comes and goes throughout the day along with the palpitations in my abdominal area

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be due to allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Ms
Shortness of breath without associated wheezing is unlikely to be due to allergy.
It more likely appears due to spasm of oesophagus.
If the symptoms are still persisting inspite of being on proton pump inhibitor , I would suggest you to get an Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in consultation with your Physician.

Take Care

Deepak
