What Causes Bump On Upper Jaw Above The Canine Tooth?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Hi I have a bump on my upper jaw, above my canine tooth. It is tender when I press it & after drinking cold or just gargling with tap water. I went to the dentist, did some x-Rays, & changed 1 filling. She checked the bump I was telling her about but said it looks normal just bony part of the jaw. I went back after a week & had 2 more fillings. I still have the pain though, it still hurts when I gargle in the morning & when I drink. I don't have plans to go back to the dentist as I might end up getting all my fillings changed without solving the main problem. I think there's something in there that the dental x-Rays didn't pick up. Please advise me on what to do. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
tooth infection, cyst/abscess, exostosis, RCT

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
As far as the lump over the canine tooth region is concerned, i have two possibilities.
It can be because of the tooth infection that has resulted in abscess or cyst formation which results in lump near to the root surface of the tooth. The other possible cause can be a bony over growth like osteoma or exostosis.
Nothing to be panic, consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated.
If it is secondary to tooth infection the tooth has to be treated with root canal treatment along with a course of antibiotics. If it is a bony overgrowth it can be corrected surgically.
These are the possible causes and treatment plan based on the description of the lesion given by yourself. If you can upload the images of the lump and the radiographs i can give you exact diagnosis and treatment plan.
I hope my answer will help you, take care.

Thank yoU for the information. I cant provide photos as it can only be palpated. I dont have the radiograph with me but my dentist said the upper left dental roots are fine, where the pain is. Do I need to have an oral/maxillary xray to have a clearer view of where /what the problem is?

Brief Answer:
radiograph, orthopantomograph

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feed back. If i am your treating doctor, i would suggest you to get a full jaw radiograph like Orthopantomograph which reveals the lesions of the tooth and jaw bone. So you consult a good oral physician and take one more opinion.
I hope i have answered your question.
Take care.
