What Causes Bruise And Lump On Inner Calf?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 May 2016
Question: Good morning
I have an unexplained bruise on my inner calf with a lump as well. I can't recall any event that has caused this. I recently came back from long haul flight (December 2015). I have a history of DVT and took clexane before & after my flight just as precaution. I noticed this morning that my toes feel a little numb. Should I have this checked out asap?

Brief Answer:
Yes You Should....

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX , Good Morning ,

Well I've gone through your query and it seems reasonable enough to go and get yourself physically examined at the earliest since it's not only a bruise but also some element of numbness is involved in it too.

Since you don't recall any precipitating factor which might have caused this so my advice would be to go to your nearest ER to get the immediate attention possible..

Also make sure that they run a full body check-up along with necessary investigations like CBC, LFT , BUN/CR as well as the complete Coagulation profile and if in doubt it's always better to go for a Color Doppler of the Veno-Arterial system of both the lower limbs.

Please try to keep the limb elevated and not to move it as much as possible , so it's better if someone can assist you to the ER or you may call them up directly.

Since you don't have life threatening signs like breathing difficulties , chest pain , Palpitations and others, so you can safely approach for for it while be strictly vigilant about them .

Well as far as the flight journey goes, it's already passed 3 months now , so quite unlikely that they are related now , if you're under medical supervision(which I hope you are) .

Please Don't try to drive on your own as it's too risky.

Let me know how it goes..

Take Care..
Regards..

Good morning Dr XXXXXXX
Thank you so much for your detailed & prompt response. I'll get onto it now.
I failed to mention that I am also Factor V Leiden deficient. This was found about 10 years ago.
I will let you know the outcome.

Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
Yes, then that has put your condition at even more priority ..

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back dear,

Thanks for sharing the further details,

Well easy bruising , as you already may be knowing , is one of the most common findings of ANY HYPERCOAGULABLE STATE (Factor V Leiden is the most Common of them all). Since you're already detected ,then you must be knowing all the pros and cons , so I'm not going into those details now.

Yes please go get yourself checked because like I told , it's the numbness which is much more alarming than the bruise or the lump , so please do so.

In the meanwhile , take plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated, don't move the leg and keep it elevated to at least 60 Degree.

I hope there's nothing too serious and you should be cleared in a while or so..

Please let me know the outcome..

Wish You all the best..

Regards
