What Causes Brownish Smelly Discharge After Mirena Insertion?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2014
Question: I had a Mirena inserted a few months ago, my concern is the brownish smelly discharge. I have no cramping but I feel the strings are further out than the should be and I have an odour. My doctor put me on Flagyl and it seemed to subside, however I am on Macrobid right now and the discharge is intensifying.

Brief Answer:
treat partner and use condom

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
It is very common to have abnormal bleeding and spotting in initial 6 months of mirena insertion, so don't worry about the brownish discharge part.
But as you are saying foul smell is also there along with the discharge which is intensifying then only macrobid and flagyl won't help you.
In my opinion you need to insert clotrimazole vaginal suppositories also after speculum examination of vagina.
and most important is treatment of partner and use of condom till the course of antibiotic is complete.
So visit your gynecologist for -
- examination
- prescription for your partner and
- addition of clotrimazole in your current treatment.
In case you have further questions you can consult me on health care magic forum and i will be happy to help.
