What Causes Brownish Red Urine Post 17D Vaccination For Yellow Fever?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I posted this question about an hour ago, but still no response:

I had a Yellow Fever inoculation today from a pharmacist. Soon after my urine changed color to a dark brownish red. From internet search, this is an effect that warrants contacting a physician "right away". Do you agree?

Also, I may have wasted my time and money, as Wikipedia indicates that booster shots at 10 years are no longer warranted; one is good for life. I had this shot in 1993.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query at HCM
I understand your concern and situation.

You have taken a shot of 17D vaccine which is used against yellow fever. The booster dose is taken every 10 years so that adequate antibodies response get developed to fight the disease. It usually causes mild symptoms like fever, and with aches, soreness, redness or swelling at shot area. But in few people the vaccine may cause serious allergic reactions affecting multiple body organs (e.g., liver or kidney). You are having dark brown urine I suggest you must see your doctor as it is possible allergic reaction affecting urinary system like interstitial nephritis. Drink plenty of fluids more than 2.5 litres and take rest and go to emergency services at earliest. You will require investigations to evaluate urinary system and blood tests.

I hope I answered your query.
