What Causes Bright Red Streaks In Semen?

Question: I am a 65 year old male with normal blood 138 / 75 and recent normal blood work up. I have no trouble getting or maintaining an erection. My concern is that there is very little volume (sometimes nothing) or force when I ejaculate. Also, I have had dark brown, dark red and bright red streaks in the ejaculate about a quarter of the time over the last year or so. My doctor seems unconcerned with this although she did have blood work and urine checked with no problems found. I realize that with age, the volume and force diminishes but I have very little pleasure when I ejaculate and want to know what can be done to increase the volume of ejaculate.
should I be asking a urologist or and internal medicine doctor?

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have ejaculate of very low volume and contains brown or red streaks.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Are you taking any drugs?
2) Do you have any other urinary symptoms like Urgency,frequency,burning etc?

The brown or red streaks in semen and reduced semen volume could be due to infection of either Seminal Vesicle or Prostate .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done under his guidance,
1) Routine blood work,
2) Semen examination and semen Culture
3) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and Pelvis
4) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning (TRUS)

Further treatment or more investigations will depend upon the results of these basic tests and final diagnosis.

I am not taking any drugs of any kind other than Excedrin (2-6 a day). I have had infrequently a few time when there was urgency to urinate but no problems with stream, starting stopping, etc. I had rotator cuff surgery in March of 2012 that lasted almost four hours and it seems that what I perceive as my problem started after that. However, my doctor says that wouldn't have caused anything.
