What Causes Bright And Fresh Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: Yesterday i had a bowel movement and was straining a bit and a large piece of feces came out. The 2nd one was quite as large but this time i noticed a few droplets of bright red blood. The next morning i had another bowel movement. The first 4 that came out - med size - indicated not blood but the 5th came out with some droplets of bright red blood. Later in the day I had another bowel movement and 2 pieces of feces came out. I noticed a few droplets of blood and some cover the outside of the feces. Picture is attached. I went to see my doctor who did a rectal examination and mentioned but not sure, that there could be an internal hemerroid. He did make a referral to a specialist just in case though. I have no other symptoms and so could this be hemrroids? There is no noticable pain when making a bowel movement. Again I have no other symptoms. What can I do and how can I prevent this? I know that my eating habits has been lacking fibre and trying to improve this.

Brief Answer:
Can be because of erosion of rectal mucosa due to hard stools.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
Have gone through your question in detail.

Usually bright and fresh blood in the stool comes from a tear in the tissues of the rectum,or from hemorrhoids and would normally be combined with constipation, straining to have a bowel movement.
As per your query,
Yes it can be Hemorrhoids.Digital and proctoscopic examination by a surgeon should be done to examine the rectal mucosa.
Pain is not always associated with hemorrhoids.
Though not asked but you have mentioned that you need to strain a lot while passing stool,This can cause erosion of soft mucosa of rectum leading to bleed.

Drastic change in life style is required.
-Not exercising enough, not drinking enough water and delaying a bowel movement can worsen situation.
-Take a natural and simple diet.
-Fruits and vegetables, which contain high amounts of fiber, should be added to your diet ,Whole-grain bread, XXXXXXX oatmeal, beans and lentils can also relieve the problem so use it Instead of highly processed rice, eat brown rice, millet.
-Take Fybogel husk-Fybogel sachets and Fybogel Hi-Fibre sachets both contain the active ingredient ispaghula husk, which is a type of medicine called a bulk-forming laxative. Ispaghula is a type of fibre. It swells when it comes into contact with fluid in the gut and thus increases the volume of the faeces. It increases the bulk in your stool, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. It also works by increasing the amount of water in the stool, making the stool softer and easier to pass.
-While sitting on the toilet, support the feet on a small stool in order to achieve a normal position that aids in bowel movement.
- Avoiding alcohol and caffeine.
-drink at least eight glasses of water daily. Water helps push the food through the intestines and also helps lubricate intestinal tissues. When the body is dehydrated, the intestines absorb the fluids from the food waste, which in turn leads to hardened stools.
-Can take 10ml of lactulose every night for few days to soften stools.

Follow up after a week.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing good health,
Thanks.
