What Causes Boil On Groin Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: I am a 77 year old widow and just discovered a boil in my groin, where the torso meets leg. its the size of a small marble, painful. what do I do to get rid of it ?I have been wearing a pad lately as I'm worried about bleeding again. I have angiodysplasia and have had 4 severe bleedout s in 3 years. Could wearing the pad all the time be irritating the area? Perhaps when I am home I shouldn't wear a pad, just when I go out. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Do you have any wound?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this boil that you have reported. I don't know if for sure this is a boil or a swollen lymph node in response to a wound or infection that you have on the lower limbs. If you have no wound, then this is most likely a boil.

Boils, if small in size, generally do not require antibiotics. If they are big, then antibiotics, incision and drainage would be necessary. Beside these measures, controlling the pain with medications like Ibuprofen/Tylenol at doses recommended by your pharmacist would be helpful.

Wearing a pad could be irritating but, you have no reported any possible irritation creating breaks in skin that bacteria can easily pas through to get into the body and cause infection. When was the last time you had bleeding? This doesn't happen that often and guess you should not go on putting a pad on all the times unless you have strong reasons to do so.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for ore information and clarifications if need be.
