What Causes Body Pains, Fever And Headache Even After Typhoid Treatment?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: Hi. I had been diagnosed with typhoid fever 3 weeks ago. Symptoms were body ache, 99 degrees fever (for last 1 month) and light headache(developed recently). The doctor prescribed 10 days of kefpod Az (200/500 mg combination) twice a day and later 5 days of Ofloxin ( 200 mg) 3 times a day. My medication course of 2 weeks is over however, I still have 99.1 to 99.4 degrees F fever sometimes going up to 99.6 degrees. I have been following a proper light diet and lots of liquid but I still feel very weak. So to summarize, my original symptoms are still there for last 1 month and I am not taking any more medication. I have consulted 2 very good doctors independently and they tell me that typhoid takes time to recover. Can you please help? Do I need to take any more medication? Or get tested for something else? I have not been going to work at all and would like to know exactly how to proceed further.Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Not a Typhoid Fever.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM.
Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

First of all, let me tell you very clearly that you might not be having any Typhoid fever.

In our country, even good doctors don't know that Widal Test and Typhi Dot tests are NOT SENSITIVE for Typhoid fever.

See, Typhi Dot IgM and IgG are antibodies, that can even develop even if we get some Subclinical Infection as we eat outside food. That Subclinical infection would cause rise in antibodies that may persist for long.

So, in our country a lot of doctor's use diagnosis of Typhoid by just seeing the Widal or Typhi Dot test.
That is actually not true.
Moreover, another fact is that Typhoid Fever has high grade fever and not just a feverish feel!

I have reviewed your all reports, you just have deficiency of Vitamin D3, and again you would be XXXXXXX to know that most of the indians have that. So, no big issue.

If you don't trust me, get 2-3 of your friends tested for Widal and also Vitamin D3, you will get the same results.

Now let us come to your problem:

1. Do you have any headache associated? If yes, do you have any band like sensation over your head?
2. At what time do you feel feverish? All the day long? Or usually in evening or night, we you retire to bed.
3. Any history of White Discharge per Vaginal?
4. Any history of lower abdominal pain?
5. What do you do? And your Marital Status?
6. Any stress? or Tensions?

This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me and answer these questions preferably in point wise manner.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Detail Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
99.4 degrees is not a fever in this weather!
Stop thinking about this.
You are absolutely fine.
You might be having feverish sensations related to:
1. Work load
2. White discharge Per Vaginally, that might be a fungal infection. In case you are sexually active, it might be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

You can continue with Bone shine, no problem with that.

For white discharge , you can take a tablet of Fluconazole 200 mg single dose , repeating it after 7 days.

As far as your questions are concerned:
1. You need not to cancel any trip. Go ahead, feel happy enjoy!
2. Your symptoms are not related to Typhoid. Give your self some relaxations, you will be fine.
3. No dear, you don't need any other medication.
4. You can eat whatever you want, you can resume with non vegetarian. Just avoid, outside raw food.
5. You can resume the work, don't take excessive workload.

Also, this is important to mention here, that XXXXXXX in case you develop a fever again, don't co relate it to Typhoid, As it might be a seasonal cough and cold and viral.
As you will get your test done, you will get Typhoid positive again!!

So, just relax. Be Happy.

If you have any further query please ask me.

Hi Doc,

That is interesting. Could I have such severe body aches for one month mainly due to vitamin d3 deficiency only? What about the blood report that shows typhoid infection, that doesn't mean anything?

Also, can I drink alcohol in 5 days? Doctors told that I can't drink for 6 weeks from the onset of the illness.

Could I be really sure to eat outside food and resume life as normal? Can I eat pizza, burgers, pastas etc? Sorry for asking again. I have really suffered a lot last one month, and have a 3 weeks vacation coming up which I don't want to ruin if I can't eat out or drink. I much rather postpone if I'm not sure.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Just enjoy! Have fun.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

You made me laugh so hard!!

It seems you have been deprived of all the happiness in the world just because your Typhoid is positive!!

This test is significant only if you have high grade fever associated.

Moreover, you have been treated. So, stop thinking about Typhoid.

Body aches at this age can be due to Vitamin D3 deficiency and again can be due to some kind of stress, that can be work related.

Lie down on bed, and think seriously and peacefully that are you really stress free? No work stress, personal life stress?
You will get the reason for your body aches!

If you ask me about alcohol, then as a doctor i would say "NO".
But if i would have been your friend, i would have said, it's all right to have it once in a blue moon!!
So, happy!

Yes, you can eat Pizza, Burgers, pasta, non vegetarian, pastry, chocolates. and all the things available in food court of your nearest mall!
.
Just try to have them from good hygienic place.

I would also suggest you to resume your normal life, eat healthy and feel happy, exercise daily, eat whatever you want, live, dance , enjoy life!!

Your vacations are due, you should enjoy them to the fullest.

Don't miss such a golden chance of 3 weeks vacation just due to this stupid Typhoid report.

You have such a good life and freedom!!
Enjoy, and you will find soon that all your body aches are over (excluding Hangovers!!).
If you really wish to ruin your vacation, then get another opinion from another doctor, who would label you again as a patient of Typhoid fever.

I give you all permissions. Do whatever you want, eat whatever you like :)

If you have any further query, please ask me else you may close the discussion and rate it.
Stay Healthy & Happy!!
