What Causes Blood In Urine Inspite Of Suffering From Kidney Stones?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: I have had blood in my urine now for 5 days. It went from red to a pinkish to a cider color and has stayed that way. I have kidney stones and renal cycts. one is a Bosniak 1 the other is a Bosniak 2. Is it possible to have my stones causing the problem. I have no pain and no infection according to the urologist. I am having test done, but the waiting is killing me. Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? I have had 2 ultrasounds in the past 2 years to check out the cycts and nothing serious has been found. I had my blood checked 3 months ago and everything came back normal. I'm afraid it might be cancer.

Brief Answer:
Needs thorough evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have painless hematuria since 5 days.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have pain in loin associated with hematuria?
2) Have you done Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen very recently (after attack of Hematuria).?
3) Do you have any urinary symptoms related to enlarged prostate like increased frequency, urgency, poor stream, nocturnal frequency etc?

The commonest cause of hematuria at this age is due to either of the following diseases.
1) Stones in kidneys or ureter
2) Mass lesion in kidney or bladder(Tumor)
3) Enlarged prostate or cancer of the prostate.

Please consult qualified Urologist and get following basic tests done to find out the cause of hematuria.
1) Haemogram and blood coagulation profile
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Routine urine test and urine culture
4) Intravenous Pyelography(I.V.P..)
5) C.T Scan of the abdomen
6 ) Endoscopic examination of Bladder (Cystoscopy ) to rule out any tumor in bladder.

Further treatment will depend upon the results of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query, please feel free to ask if you have more questions, I shall be happy to help you.
Thanks and Regards.

I have had my prostate removed because of having cancer. It was rated 3+3 tertiary 4 at Johns XXXXXXX There were NO positive margins . My PSA results are<.05. I have no pain in my flanks .My urine seems to be clearing up. It is now yellowish and clearer depending on how much water I drink. Is it possible I have a kidney stone that is moving but not causing any pain? I'm hoping that since I had an ultrasound less than a year ago, and no tumors were seen, that a tumor is not the cause. Are kidney cancerous tumors rapid growing . I ask because non were shown on my 2 ultrasounds last year.
