What Causes Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: Hello, I visited the GYN today, and he told me I had blood in my stool when he did the rectal and did the occult test. That morning I had noticed a tiny part of the toilet tissue had a tinge of red on it. I also have internal hemorrhoids. Could this small tinge of blood on my tissue be from my internal hemorrhoids? I am 54 and have had at least 5 colonoscopies as I started early in my life due to cancers running in my family. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
This blood is from hemorrhoids for sure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Yes, trace of blood on the toilet paper, blood in the stool (on its surface) are typical signs of hemorrhoids. No doubt in that. Its very common actually especially after a hard stool.
It takes about 10 years for the colon cancer to develop, so if you have had colonoscopy in last few years, you are totally safe. And no need to be worried about the blood in the stool.
When you see the blood with an eye, performing occult blood test is pointless. It will be positive for sure.

I suggest you to add fiber and probiotic to your diet. Use some suppositories for hemorrhoids.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
