What Causes Blood In Stool With History Of Polyps In Colon?
Question: Hi. I have been having blood in my stool (medium red I'd say, woven throughout the faeces) for the last 3 or 4 days. been having bowel movements more frequently as well, 4 or 5 times per day (normally 1, sometimes 2) - the first two today seemed fine, but since then there has been blood.
I have had a colonoscopy a couple of years ago, and they removed a polyp but it was benign.
This may be unrelated, but I wanted to check - I did crystal meth on Friday (6 days ago) - could this be related? I can't see an anxious fissure and think the source of the blood is further inside. The bleeding only started a few days after.

Crystal meth can affect the gastrointestinal tract along with the other organs of the body but it is not associated with bleeding.
In the gastrointestinal tract, it can cause abdominal pain and obstruction (mainly because it slows down the bowel). It is not known to cause bleeding.
If you are having loose frequent bowel movements (diarrhea) then the blood may be due to an infection of the gastrointestinal tract. Most likely bacterial.
This can be confirmed by a stool sample sent to the lab by your doctor.
It is treated with fluids to prevent dehydration, probiotics and may require antibiotics but this would depend on the type of bacteria seen.
Some bacterial would not require antibiotic
Other causes would be :(1)hemorrhoids, anal fissure- both of these would be associated with some level of pain
(2)benign or malignant polyps of the colon
(3)diverticulitis- this is inflammation of diverticula which are 'outpouchings' of the bowel
It would be best to visit your doctor so he or she can examine your abdomen and rectum.
Send a stool sample to the lab and order any other tests (based on examination findings)
