Brief Answer:
different possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
Blood in the semen is called hematospermia.
There are different possible causes and they would relate to the production of semen and the path in which it travels.
Possible causes: (1) benign (non cancerous) or malignant problems with the prostate gland such as benign enlargement, infection of the prostate, due to prostate biopsy and cancer
(2)urinary tract infections
(3)bleeding due to a side effect of medication
(4)Inflammation of the epididymis or urethra
(5)inflammation, infection or cysts in the seminal vesicles. These also play a part in the production of semen
(6)stones, benign or malignant masses in the seminal vesicles or testes
(7)trauma eg trauma due to sexual intimacy
Normally to determine the cause, your doctor would take a careful history and suggests some tests which would include blood tests (to check the prostate), urine analysis and also analysis of semen
Imaging may or may not be needed depending on the results of these tests.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any additional questions
