What Causes Blood In Semen After Intercourse?
Usually not serious to require panic, see dr
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
I understand this could be quite frightening or alarming, especially if its the very first time. Most of the time, this is not associated to any serious underlining disease. It usually fades away on its own.
However, when recurrent or abundant, some diseases could be implicated. A prostate gland problem, either an increase in size or a cancer could cause blood to be seen in sperm (hematospermia). A clinical review, prostate ultrasound and prostate specific antigen measurement, PSA, in blood could be useful.
Sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonococcal infections of the seminal vessicules should also be carefully screened for. Blood vessel malformations could also easily bleed and cause blood semen.
The cause is of blood in semen is usually benign, and should not cause any serious panic especially if for the first time or not very abundant. However, in case of persistence or aggravation, the opinion of a Urologist would be ideally required.
Kind regards as I wish you the best of health.
