Brief Answer:
NOT TO WORRY

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
From the details you gave me there are 2 possibilities.

There are numerous blood vessels just below the surface in the throat.
hacking or coughing very vigorously leads to tear of these vessels and blood in sputum. This may be the case in you.

Since you mentioned you have chest congestion, there is a possibility that you have chest infection.

See a doctor to confirm.

Regards,
Dr Rajkishori Godhi.

Hi. A couple of days ago I awoke and started experiencing pain in my chest when I would swallow. The pain is located to the left of my right breast and feels like I could have a scratch on my esophagus. It hasn t gotten better and the pain has become a dull throb throughout the day. Having such a strong family history of cancer, along with a whole host of other problems, it makes me worry that I may be ignoring something that could be serious. I m 33 years old, a diabetic with good sugar control, but I smoke. How long should I let this condition continue before seeing my family doctor? If it is a scratch or ulcer on the esophagus, how long does it usually take to heal? And is there anything I could be doing to help it heal faster? Thank you for your time, Melissa

Hello, my name is Dianne. I have suffered from hypertension for over 6 years. Several medications did not work. My right kidney was removed in November of last year. My bp came down. I am now on only 200 mg of labatalol 2 times daily. I has been increasing. About two weeks ago I experienced and was treated for bronchitis with Z-pack then started Cipro three days ago. However, I am extremely out of breathe now and have muscle pain from my upper neck to my lower back. It feels as though I am bruised to the point I cant even wear a bra. I have tightness in my chest just to the left side. I also feel very tired and have been unable to work because of this and have gained 6 pounds in just a weeks time. Could this possibly be from my kidney. The last test showed 74% function of the remaining kidney. That was in January, It took two er visits with the chest pain for them to say it was bronchitis.

I am writing about my 14 year old son, who has been ill repeatedly 4 times for the past 7 weeks. He s been on antibiotics all 4 times, struggles to recover until his antibiotics are nearly gone, finally feels better for a few days and then gets it again. We are wondering if it is valley fever. Can that come with congestion/sinus symptoms? He s been diagnosed with sinus infections each time, but develops not only significant congestion/sinus symtpoms, but also chest pain, horrible coughing, fatigue, sore throat, and is miserable. He has faithfully taken not only strong antibiotics, but prescription strength cough syrup/decongestant, Flonase nasal spray, Zyrtec once a day, and breathing treatments up to 4 times a day, along with vitamin C and lots of fluids. He is otherwise very healthy, but his doctor is concerned that perhaps it is not really sinus infections he has had. I cannot find on the internet where there is a connection between congestion/sinus symptoms and Valley Fever - curious about that as others have asked if he has been tested for it. We live in Phoenix. As a young child he had repeated ear infections, but 4 years ago at age 10 he had his tonsils and adenoids removed, tubes in his ears, and a major sinus surgery. He has been very healthy ever since until now. Any ideas? Thank you verey much!
