Question: Hi, my daughter has had swim ear, which ive been treating with the drops that she was prescribed. This morning I noticed that her ear canal was bloody. I assume this means that her ear drum has perforated. Is this an emergency, and should I continue with the drops?

Dear Ms,

As there is blood in the external auditory canal it is very much likely to be due to perforation of tympanic membrane. It requires assessment by ENT surgeon at earliest.
Use of ear drops especially containing neomycin will be harmful( Ototoxic: Toxicity to structures of middle ear cavity). It is definitely not advisable to blindly continue use of the drops, as they will enter the middle ear cavity in veent of perforation of membrane.

I would suggest you to consult Surgeon at earliest

Take Care
