What Causes Blood In Cervical Mucus On 8th Day Of Menstruation?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I'm still breastfeeding my 3-year-old twice a day, and my periods only returned 6 months ago. They've been a regular 27-28 days, lasting 6-7 days. The last one I just had was very heavy for the first two days but only lasted 4 days. Now, on day 8, I just had a bunch of cervical mucous streaked with blood. I'm worried about cervical cancer since I have a history of CIN1 (last two paps were normal, though, but I haven't had one in 4 years). I've also been having mild night sweats for about 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Not cancer but gynaecologist examination advised.

Detailed Answer:
Hello And Welcome to Health Care Magic Forum. Thanks for writing in to us with your health query. I have gone through your query and understand your concerns completely. I don't think that it is due to cervical cancer. Most probably it is due to retained blood of last period which got secreted with mucus. it is a common occurrence. But still I will advise you to visit a gynaecologist and get examined and also get a PAP smear done. Regards Dr Manisha Jain.

Thank you. It was not brown blood but quite red--can it still be period blood even if period ended 4 days ago? With cervical or uterine cancer, does the bleeding come and go or will it be continuous? Thank you.

Sorry, one other thing--can I expect continued breastfeeding to cause irregularities in my period until my son is completely weaned?

Brief Answer:
Endometrial biopsy if this continues

Detailed Answer:
Usually this kind of bright red blood is a little warning a sign especially when you have had normal periods since quite a while now.
This is not a simple lactation induced irregularity.
In my opinion get a colposcopy evaluation by a good gynecologist and then observe for bleeding in between periods.
In case intermenstrual bleeding continues then an endometrial biopsy is a must.

So your first answer was that it was retained blood from my period--are you now saying that is not the case?

Also there is no more blood today. If the bleeding does not start again until my next period, is this still a concern?

Brief Answer:
If it recurs only then it is a problem

Detailed Answer:
Yes dear, most likely there is nothing to worry but seeing your history I want to walk safe and especially in case this bleeding episode repeats in future.
Just wait for your next period and if no such episode happens in future nothing active needed.
