Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: Hi. Im attaching a picture of something that I have had on my breast for about three weeks now. It doesn't itch. There's been no pain. There has been a little bit of bloody discharge in the last day. It hasn't grown in size but it has flattened out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

It is definitely a lesion which needs investigation.

If it dos not pain or itch then it is unlikely to be an injury.

I will advise you to get a needle biopsy (FNAC) of the tissue sample as it does not look good.

I'm just wondering if it could be a boil because I am diabetic and my sugar has been a little high lately. I have had boils before just never in this location and this one is lasting a little longer .

YES it can be a boil. But they are generally painful.

I am not ruling it out.

At least a clinical examination which will include feeling the swelling for hardness, warmth , tenderness etc is needed before we can comment on it.

Did you scratch the area as its looking a bit excoriated ?

Also is there any pus as boils do have pus.

Well its not painful at all. I didn't scratch it but it broke in one area last night and has been bleeding a little since then. There was definitely no pus. It feels slightly warm in the outer red area .

Yes this is what my niece thinks too (she teachs Radiation Science and is a MRI Tech). Could this be because of my high sugar?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes it can be.

High sugars are known to cause non healing lesions.

But it better not to guess.

How much is your sugar lately?

And what medications are you taking for it?

Are you on insulin?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Your sugars need to be controlled. I will advise you to get your anti diabetic medications revised.

Once your sugar is in normal range even the lesion will become better if its an infective cause.
