What Causes Bleeding While Doing Rectal Examination?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: Hi doctor, This is a silly question. I have piles and last night I went to see a surgeon in his clinic. The clinic is small and not a standardized clinic. He and helper checked and touched my anus by using handscoon which taken from a handscoon box. I was not aware whether he inserted his finger or something or not into my anus. When I was at home I checked my anus and I found there was a little bleeding in it. I very worry if I am infected by infectious diseases or HIV. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

There is no need to worry that you got infected with HIV or something.

Rectal examination may sometimes cause little bleeding when there are lesions present there like piles, fissures etc.

The doctor would have used a glove to examine you and also the equipment used would have been sterile.

So it is unlikely that you acquired any infection.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
