What Causes Bleeding From The Tongue?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: I had a headache yesterday which was relieved with two Tylenol. Nothing outstanding or unusual about the headache. This morning I had spontaneous bleeding from my tongue… No broken areas or injury . Bleeding was minimal and stopped with pressure applied. Then, as I was trying to figure out what was going on with these symptoms I remembered that I woke up two nights ago With numbness in my arm and I just felt was due to laying in a bad position. I have had no shortness of breath, no chest pain no tingling in my arms etc. no dizziness or blurred vision. . Should I go to urgent care for evaluation?

Brief Answer:
maintaining oral hygiene is very important.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Unless you saw some cut on your tongue (even if you saw the blood on your tongue) how did you know that the bleeding was from your tongue and not from anywhere else in your oral cavity? If you do not maintain proper oral hygiene, the bleeding is more likely to have occurred from your gums. Brush twice a day and use mouth wash. I think that should take care of your problem. If that still does not help, visit a doctor. I do not think that unless you notice a severe bleeding you need to visit urgent care.
