What Causes Bleeding And Cloudy White Fluid Discharge In Hymen During Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: Hello, I'm 18 years old and I'm worried that my hymen is infected.

I had a hymen that went down across the middle of the entrance of my vagina which made sex impossible. About a week ago, I managed to manually tear the part in the middle. However, the next day, tiny specs of white substance appeared where the hymen had ripped. I applied betadine on it and TLC. Still one side bled a little bit and it's been itchy and irritant ever since. On saturday my boyfriend and I tried to have sex again but failed as it simply still woundn't fit and my hymen started bleeding profusely. I examined it in the mirror again today and now there's a cloudy white fluid all around what's left of my hymen.

Please help, I'm really worried it might be infected and have no idea how serious the consequences could be. My boyfriend is 100% clean of any STI. Do I need treatment? Or can I just buy something to apply on it?

Yours sincerely,

XXXX

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

I'm not sure how to get the photo to you, should I email it?

Oh ok, I figured it out. I hope the photo helps, let me know if you need anything clearer.

It doesn't look so bad in the photo but if it's the white colouring at the bottom that worries me as that is not usually there.

It is very tender if I touch it and sometimes if I sit or get up in certain ways it feels a little sore. It doesn't seem to smell any different to usual though.
Sorry I said I tried using TLC, I meant TCP.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
I have gone through the photo.
There seems to be no evidence of infection here.
You seem to have had a tough hymen, that sometimes happens.
And you have ripped it apart, so the edges would be sore and irritated.
Avoid sex for some time.
Give it a week .
Meanwhile, take some vaseline / KY jelly / lube and finger yourself, slowly admitting the tip of a finger, then one finger and trying to dilate the opening.
THen sex should be okay after a week, as long as your partner is gentle initially and patient.
The surrounding area is also swollen right now.
Please take hot water Sitz baths 5 - 6 times a day and cold ice compresses locally.
If there is persistent pain / swelling / redness or a foul discharge even after a few days, and this just does not get better, you might need to consult an OB - GYN and get antibiotics for this.
Take care.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me Dr XXXXXXX

Luckily I've just been prescribed with antibiotics today for my flu, so hopefully if there is any danger of an infection that should take care of it.

Thank you very much for your advice, and for reassuring me! I feel much better about it now.

Take care also.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thank you for your appreciation.
I am so glad I could make a difference to your state of mind.
Yes, the antibiotics should hopefully take care of it, what have you been prescribed exactly ?
Please follow the steps outlined, and you should be better.
Avoid any kind of soap, gel , talc, cleanser on the area, it can aggravate things.
Just wash with lukewarm water gently and XXXXXXX dry with a linen / cotton towel.
Let me know how it goes.

The antiobiotics I take are amoxicillin, and I have to take them three times a day for about a week.

Also, I often use this particular gel based product to clean down there called Saugella. It's pH 4.5 and it's supposed to be good for keeping the pH balance maintained. So far I've never encountered a problem with it and I consider it completely harmless, but do you advice I stop using that too for a week?

Brief Answer:
Yes, please stop that.

Detailed Answer:
The amoxicillin is fine, it should handle whatever amount of infection there is, if there is any.
Please do not use any products like Saugella locally.
The vagina maintains its own pH and flora with its natural secretions, any extraneous products cause more of irritation and depletion of normal flora.
Yes, please stop using that product completely, you do not need it, as long as you maintain good hygiene otherwise.
Take care.
