What Causes Bleeding After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Pill?
Question: Im a mother of 6 month baby boy. I have not got my periods yet. I had an emergency contraceptive pill clr 72 since I had intercourse with my husband and semen went inside my vagina. Im breastfeeding my baby. Will it affect my baby. Eill i become pregnant. Also, I got little bleeding like periods a week after. Is there any problem. Is that bleeding my periods. When will my next periods come.

As your periods had not started till now due to lactational amenorrhoea . Now since you had taken an ipill after intercourse then bleeding which happened after 7 days ensures that there is no pregnancy.
Now your fresh date of LMP is the date of start of bleeding, so you should expect your bleeding accordingly. But since you are breast feeding the date may not coincide with the due date...and your periods may be delayed.
Also the ipill will not affect your baby at all , so dont worry..
Menses generally regularize once breast feeding is stopped and baby is weaned.

So, the pill will not pass to my baby while breastfeeding.n does not affect baby...?? So is it safe to take pill while breastfeeding?I just got the bleeding today..will it continue for few days like periods, or will it be there only today..why did the bleeding happen, can u explain doctor..since im breastfeeding, when will my perios come? Is it safe to have sex while breastfeeding without prevention. Pls help

The pill will not have any effect on your baby and it wont be secreted in your breast milk. As the content of ipill is the same estrogen and progesterone but in high dosage, and they dont effect lactation.
Secondly, it is not advisable to opt for ipill every time as it has a very common side effect of delaying menses, so it is advisable to follow barrier contraception or low dose oc pills for contraception during breast feeding.
Thirdly the bleeding which has started today is secondary to withdrawal due to ipill, it may lasts for 3 to 5 days and may be moderate to heavy. However the next period dates is not fixed as you are still breast feeding , so it cant be predicted. As mentioned earlier periods regularize once you stop breast feeding.

Thanks a lot for your explanation. Could you tell me whether there was a chance of pregnancy when I had intercourse without protection, and had that got eliminated as I had i pill. If I did not take clr 72 tab, would I had become pregnant. Could you confirm.
Also, was this bleeding due to discharge of the pill or is it due to discharge of fertilised ovum.
Also, I m having cold. Can I take cold tablets or antibiotics since im breastfeeding. Please reply.

Well truly speaking it is difficult to comment upon the ovulation scenario at the time of intercourse. it may be a possibility that if you wouldnt have taken ipill then possibly you may have become pregnant. ovulation is to be confirmed with the help of LH-KIT.
Confirmation of pregnancy can be done by a beta hcg based urine pregnancy test which is avilable in the form of UPT kits off the counter in pharmacy.
Thirdly you should ideally avoid antibiotics during this period and take to steam inhalation and saline gargles as modes of preventive treatment and if required may take tab paracetamol for analgesia and antipyretic.
