What Causes Black Stool While On Antibiotics?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 May 2017
Question: i have been taking 2 antibiotics for two days due to what is diagnosed as cellulites, my first instnace of it tho I have been diagnosed with systemic lymphatic cogestions for 6 years. I am 5'10'' 225 pounds so it is not as bad as some, but it is creeping along gaining, not halted, despite MLD for 6 yrs, three visists a month. sulphurmethoxazole DMPDS tablet every 12 hrs for 10 days and c ephalexin 500 mg every 6y hrs for ten days. Cellulitges sore is on ankle where tibia broke two years ago. It drew my attention because it was not like other dermatological issues I have had to do lymphatic congestions. This was an opening
one half inch diameter which looked like a sink hole, scabs coming off every day leaving a wet red area with no skin at all. Doc says not mrsa. It was growing by the end of the third day, not healing. Anyh comments. Question. 24 hours after first dose of antibiotics my stools were cark brown red and some diarretic fluid also, which was black as ink? Appeared suddenly with the antibiotic use. tested for blood in the stool 6 mos ago, negative. Can antibiotics, or a strong tea for liver cleansing, cause this. thanks.

Brief Answer:
ANTIBIOTICS CAN CAUSE BLACK STOOLS

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the history,it seems that you are taking appropriate treatment.

Sulphurmethoxazole can cause black stools.
Cephalexin does not cause it for sure.

Strong tea also can cause dark coloured stools but not as black as ink.It can only cause dark brown, greyish stools.

I suggest you to wait for another 2 days.

If the colour remains the same, you can consult a doctor and get the stool tested.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
