What Causes Black Patches On The Inner Labia While Treating Melanoma?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: Hello, i have had melanoma removed a few years ago (under breast). I use a tanning bed, naked. The other day when i was, um, cleaning/trimming up my vaginal area, i noticed i have a couple of black patches on the inner labia (if that is the right term). No pain at all, not raised. Could this be melanoma from tanning in the nude? (I am 48 and have been tanning on and off since i was a teenager). Dont want to have to go to dr if it is a normal thing. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Can be a harmless pigmentation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The black patches that you have noticed could be due to pigmentation also. If the area of pigmentation is not increasing or the margins are regular then there is no need to be worried. It is best to keep the area covered while tanning to avoid any increase in pigmentation in the area. However biopsy is the only way to rule out melanoma for sure.

Wishing you good health.
