What Causes Bi-lateral Kidney Pain After Discontinuing Opioid Medication?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: I just flew back from Germany yesterday. While there I was at a Naturathic Praxix and came off of opioid meds that I had been on since 2006 for CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) as I am now in remission. Even with their support I hit withdrawal. 3 days into it I started having bi-lateral kidney pain.

Now 3 weeks later it is worse. Prior to leaving their tests showed high levels of toxins in my system, and a manual exam confirmed my kidneys were inflamed. It is now a sharp pain bi-laterally, constant and when sitting back or putting pressure on the areas I get nauseated.

Any suggestions? No ultrasound was done in Germany.

Brief answer...must go to ER and get yourself examined and investigated.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Considering your symptoms and considering the fact that they have worsened in past three weeks, you need to be investigated thoroughly to get the proper diagnosis. Proper management can be done only after the diagnosing the cause.
You would urgently require thorough blood work along with ultrasound abdomen and possibly a CT abdomen to know the extent of kidney involvement or any other pathology.
In fact you should have had ultrasound abdomen and other relevant kidney tests done 3 weeks back when the problem started. I am amazed that it was not done at that time.
Well don't wait and go to ER.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
