What Causes Benign Sebacious Cysts Under The Penis Tip?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 May 2014
Question: I believe I have small benign sebacious cysts on the underside of my penis near the tip. I'm sure they are not a result of an STD as I remember these from before I became active.

The 2 bigger ones I would like to have removed for cosmetic reasons, plus sometimes there is very small irritation during intercourse.

Who should I consult first: a dermatologist, PCP to get a referral to a urologist or cosmetic surgeon? If this is considered cosmetic do you have any idea of cost for cyst excision?

Any loss of sensation as a result of this procedure or any other side effects outside of normal surgical risks?

Brief Answer:
details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen the attached image.
These lesions could be sebaceous cyst or fordyce spots. These are not a part of any sexually transmitted disease.
As such both of these can be excised or cauterised by a dermatologist and urologist. However a urologist would be a safer bet as not all dermatologists are experienced or comfortable to deal with sebaceous cyst in sensitive areas. You can approach one directly with an appointment.

The cost of procedure is not fixed. Some may charge more depending on their expertise, experience and clinical set up.
As its going to be a minor surgical procedure, so no side effects would be seen. However sexual abstinence and self stimulation should be avoided, till area heals completely.

Hope this helped.
Take care
