What Causes Belching And Frequent Bowel Movements?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: Dear Dr. Chail, I continue to have problems with belching and very frequent loose bowel movements. What has now happened is that my wife has developed the same problems in the last two days. As you know, I am concerned about my HSV1 causing these gastrointestinal problems. Is it possible that I passed the HSV-1 to her for her to have the same problems as me. I am very perplexed by all of this, and very concerned. The gastroenterologist has not scheduled endoscopy/colonoscopy for me yet. Please advise. Am I justified to be so concerned ? Thanks.

Brief Answer: Please find detailed answer below Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing in to us. I suppose your wife's problem might be more in an acute stomach infection if symptoms after many days. I suggest she takes adequate amounts of fluid and water to avoid dehydration. If there is severe diarrhea then you must take her to the er. It's unlikely that you have passed on your infection. Regarding your problems, an endoscopy/ colonoscopy is suggested if you continue to have bowel related symptoms. Also please keep yourself hydrated as well. Hope your query is answered. Do write back if you have any doubts. Regards, Dr.Vivek
