What Causes Bad Breath From The Mouth While Having Diabetes?

Question: My husband has a moth ball odor.
What can be causing this?
He is diabetic, (type II), and is on meds for
heart, blood pressure and diabetes.
Could the meds be causing it?
Or could it be something else?

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.
There are so many reasons for Mothball odor some of them are Poor oral hygeine, diet in which the particles you eat will remain between your teeth until you floss.Even some medical disorders like sinusitis will have it.The medications you may be using for years may well be the reason behind your breath that smells like mothballs. Medications used to treat hypertension may also cause breath that smells like mothballs. I will give you some suggestions by which you can avoid this.
-Avoid dry mouth
-Brush your teeth after you eat
-Brush your tongue
-Floss regularly
-Drink plenty of water to avoid dry mouth caused my medications
-Consult a dentist and your physician to discuss about teeth cleaning and medications Etc.
-As he is a diabetic please make sure his sugar levels are in control and even try to have a urinary ketones levels as ketoacidosis although not common with diabetes type 2 you need to rule out that.
