What Causes Back Pain, Headaches And Dry Mouth?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Jun 2017
Question: I am a female, 55 years old. I live in California (for time zone). I tweaked my back over the Memorial Day weekend. I had. Acupuncture yesterday on the lower back and glute minimums (something like that) yesterday around noon. Usually takes a few treatments to relax my back after tweaking. My back pain has gotten a bit worse during the late afternoon and evening. During the afternoon yesterday and evening had this constant urge to go to urinate and when did I did not go much. Feel asleep at bedtime around 11:00 but woke up at night to pee. Around 1:45 or so go up but this time it was not my usual flow of urine felt a bit more chunky. Was tired so didn't think of it, did not flush then went back to bed. Once back in bed and more awake I said that was odd and went back to check and there was blood in the toilet. I flushed. Still have the more constant urge to pee and there is some blood in the toilet and when I wipe. Also after peeing there is a funny feeling that comes over my body which is not typical. I am very cold now, seem to have a fever or am hot. Also seem to have a bit of a headache and dry mouth. Also just started new pills, about time back started hurting for slow thyroid - went from 0.150 to 0.175 of synthpid. Question - should I go to the emergency room or wait for my primary care doctor to get in at 8:00 this morning to have this checked? Is it okay to drink water?

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam.
I have read your message.
I think you should go to the casualty/ER as soon as possible.
It seems that you have been bleeding inside.
That is probably why there is blood in urine.
It is difficult to comment whether the blood is coming from back pain, post acupuncture or spontaneously.
What is more, it is difficult to comment where the blood is oozing from- it is somewhere in urinary tract since there is blood in urine but we don't know whether it is kidneys, ureters or bladder.
And we also don't know whether there is probably some blood collecting elsewhere in the body that has probably not yet expressed itself.
The cold feeling seems to suggest that your blood pressure may be coming down due to active bleeding.
So overall, yes go to an ER and ask for a urologist or surgeon.
And please do not take anything orally. I do not mean to scare you but if there is an active bleeding that needs some procedure for stopping the bleeding, the doctor will need you to be nil orally, or empty stomach- so I suggest that do not take anything orally till you are visited by a doctor.
If possible, ask a nurse in the vicinity/paramedical staff who come to take you to ER to start you on iv fluids as you go to the ER- preferably after taking BP.
Best of luck, Dr Mittal
