What Causes Atrophy In The Cheek Area Post Cortisone Injection?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I have had 3 cortisone injections in my lower facial cheek area. Trying to shrink a knot of scar tissue from a procedure gone awry 15 years ago. (facial liposuction that over time, as more fat was put in because too much was removed - it had hardened and isn't smooth like the other side.) The area is small but puffy looking and awful in photographs. My skin has just started to show signs of atrophy the past few days. But not in the area injected. A little higher up. I will not have any more injections. (they were done by a dermatologist) My question is: will this 'right' itself? Is this permanent damage or can my skin repair itself over time? I'm 46 (female) and have always had very good skin. It is fairly minor still, but there are definate depressions, dents, if you will. What do you think? Thank you!

It will recover

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Generally the skin has a good recovering ability and permanent damage is rare.
Atrophy is one of the side effects of cortisone injection.
Skin slowly recovers from this.
If possible please upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis and a better line of management.
Waiting for your response.
