Brief Answer:
Due to chromosomal anomalies in the fetus

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Blighted ovum can occur due to chromosomal abnormalities, which are sporadic and are not likely to recur in next pregnancy.
I will suggest you to take folic acid tablet daily from3 months preconceptionally, to 3 months post conception, as it is known to reduce the risk of fetal anomalies in the fetus.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
