What Causes An Increase In The PSA Level?

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Dec 2014
Question: I am 51 years old and have had a rise in psa level over the last 6 months. 1.5 to a 3. I have had a sonogram and a MRI and both came back negative for cancer. I recently had more bloodwork done and psa is still a 3. I did have sex 24 hours prior to the bloodworm so I dont know if that had effect on psa levels. what are your thoughts.

Brief Answer:
Repeat Serum PSA after abstinence of 4-5 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted and past threads on this issue with panelist on this floor it appears that you have done your PSA level test 24 after having sex.

Ideally in order to get proper results PSA ,there should be period of 4-5 days of abstinence or any sort of stimulation of prostate before doing blood test for PSA estimation.

Your PSA is within normal range of 4 ng and I still do not think it to be worried about.

You can repeat it after abstinence of 4-5 days.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
