What Causes Acid Reflux And Indigestion After Taking Prednisone?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jun 2016
Question: I have had a difficult month physically. Had the flu about a month ago. Was placed on prednisone for four days and then developed bad case of acid reflux and indigestion. As a result of this I was placed on Zantac 300 mg at night and Carafate. After about six days, my stomach is starting to feel a little better but I noticed that I wasn't able to take in deep breaths like normal so I used my peak flow. Normally I blow around a 400, but tonight I am only around a 350. I used my inhaler and it helped. I am wondering if it might benefit me to use my emergency inhaler more for a few days and also whether inactivity can decrease peak flow readings. When I'm healthy I normally run/exercise and during the last month I have been rather sedentary.

Brief Answer:
No, inactivity can not decrease peak flow.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, activity directly can not cause decrease in peak flow.
But inactivity due to breathing difficulty can cause decrease in peak flow.
In my opinion, you are mostly having post infectious bronchitis.
And yes, you can definitely take your rescue inhaler.
You should also start your regular exercise slowly, gradually.
Do proper care to avoid reflux. Avoid stress and anxiety, be relax and calm.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
