What Causes Abdominal Pain While On Rcifax?

Question: Hi - i had seen a gastroenterologist last week since I had problems like gas, buring sensation in upper stomach and chest and also irregular bowel movements sometimes. Docotr did endoscopy and teh reports told that there is erosive gastritis and doctor also told me that it could be at a starting stage of ulcers but not a documented one. As medication i have been taking rablet T every morning before brekafast for a moth and rcifax 400 daily three times after meals for 15 days . my other symptoms have come down but i feel mild stomach pains sometimes in the stomach. I have read that rcifax 400 is suppsed to be taken only for 3 days and not more and also that the tablet has sideeffects including abdominal pain but my doc has suggested me to take it for 15 days. Is it safe to take this tablet like for 15 days or do i need to see the doc again and let him know? Could you please suggest

Brief Answer: Rcifax induced gastritis Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the query Rcifax is an antibiotic. It can be taken for 15 days and it will not cause any harm. The doctor has advised you to take it for 15 days as he might be predicting that it is the intra luminal ( within the intestine) bacteria which is causing the irregular bowel movements. I recommend you to take Rablet morning and night before food until you finish the 15 days of Rcifax to control the symptoms of abdominal pain I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me I wish you good health and a speedy recovery Regards

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX I will cotinue to take them as the doctor has suggested But do i have these mild stomach pains because of the tablet Rcifax as side effects? I am just wondering why i got these pains only after taking these tablets. If the pain does not have any other affects to my body and is not harming then i am ok to bear it as i dont want to take additional dosage of tablets like Rablet as you suggested (since i dont want to take too much of medicine unless it is required)? I assume Rablet is not for the symptoms but it will cure the gastritis itself? If so is there a possibility that gastritis will occur again in future and can develop into ulcers and something more serious like cancers once we cross like 50's ? ( this is what i have read somewhere) What are the do's and dont to prvent the gastritis from occuring again? could you please suggest APart from this as a different topic, As a precautionary measure, can Liv 52 tablets be taken in general daily to prevent any kind of serouis damage to liver in the old age? Brief Answer: Hello Detailed Answer: Thanks for getting back I am sorry for the short delay in my reply, I was on call at my hospital You have posed many questions, I'll try answering them one by one so that I dont miss any 1. But do i have these mild stomach pains because of the tablet Rcifax as side effects? Mild stomach aches could be because of Rcifax however it is more likely to be a confounding factor to the already existing gastric erosion. The treatment for both Rcifax induced gastritis and gastric erosion is the same, Tab Rablet 2. I am just wondering why i got these pains only after taking these tablets It is because of Rcifax induced gastritis. Taking Rablet twice daily will cause no harm as the side effect profile of this drug is extremely good and all of our patients are tolerating it very well besides it will make you symptom free 3. I assume Rablet is not for the symptoms but it will cure the gastritis itself? If so is there a possibility that gastritis will occur again in future and can develop into ulcers and something more serious like cancers once we cross like 50's ? Rablet is for the symptoms of gastritis as well as for curing the gastric erosions, gastritis could occur in the future, some individuals are genetically predisposed to having more gastric secretions these people need prolonged treatment with antigastric medications. Gastric erosions are not a predisposing factor for cancer, gastric ulcers very rarely become cancerous. Since you are already seeking medical care at a very early stage you will little to worry about 4. What are the do's and dont to prvent the gastritis from occuring again? 1. Eat regularly and on time, dont be irregular with your meals 2. Avoid smoking and alcohol 3. Limit coffee, tea, milk and milk products until you are better 4. Avoid spicy and oily food 5. Add lots of fibre to diet 6. Eating at short intervals rather than eating 3 course meal a day is recommended 5. can Liv 52 tablets be taken in general daily to prevent any kind of serouis damage to liver in the old age? Thank you very much! I do not have stomach pains now. I am guessing it was only the initial side effects of the tablet:) I had a couple of general questions and hoping if you could answer it 1) Generally does the stomach get upset if we consume something like a cup of tea, watermelon and a plate of chat? I am just giving an example and wanted to know if mixing different kinds of food causes stomach upset/discomfort or pain? 2) Is there any home remedy which can be consumed daily to keep the liver healthy? I am asking his because i used to have frequent stomach pains earlier then had Jaundice when i was a kid (probably at the age of 10) and then in my late 20s i used to have frequent stomach upset whenever i eat out or oily/spicy and then now gastric. I just want to know if we have something which can be consumed at home everyday to prevent any seroius condition in the old age:) Thank you very much for all your inputs Regards Guru XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Hello Detailed Answer: Thanks for getting back The word 'stomach upset' is a very colloquial term and it could mean many things. If you could get back to me with what you really mean by stomach upset I would be able to give a much better answer 1. Usually milk and milk products causes discomfort of the stomach especially when taken as a beverage with tea or coffee. Mixing of different kinds of food should not ideally cause any abdominal discomfort unless it is taken in large amounts. High protein foods like dal, sprouts, etc usually causes gaseous distention of the abdomen 2. Since I am an allopathic doctor I do not know much about home remedies, I am sorry about that. Usually children get Hepatitis A and I am quite sure it was Hepatitis A which caused the jaundice when you were 10, it is a self limiting illness with no long term complications. Your frequent stomach pains is because the erosive gastritis which should get better with treatment I hope I was of help Regards
