What Causes Abdominal Pain While Lifting Weights?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 May 2014
Question: Dr Klerida, If my barium test does indeed show a malroation, but without obstruction, could I still have abdominal pain? I notice when I exercise, and use weights that after, not during, I get abdominal pain. Could the malrotation cause some kind of spasms that happen after exercise and as result cause my pain. Also, if, for some reason, I will need surgery, is it the Ladd procedure and does it fix the problem? Dr Klerida, it appears I do not have a malrotation, after talking to the radiologist, who did the Barium test. They also did the Barium with follow through. Why didn't the GI order this follow through early on? Itseems a lot of things can go wrong with the small intestine? Dr Klerida, This question is more important than the other two. on my MRI it was noted the small bowel does not demonstrate any gross abnormalities. The bone marrow signal is maintained. On the ct scan it was noted the small bowel and colonic loops are nondilated and no obstructive. Only a minimal degree of diverticulosis is actively seem. What does this mean regarding the small intestine?

Brief Answer: Diverticulosis explains your symptoms... Detailed Answer: Hi there, Sorry for the late reply due to system problems. I am glad to know that no gross abnormalities have been noticed. To judge better, I'd like to have the new MRI report in order to compare with the previous one. Next, to my opinion, you might be experiencing the very first stage of diverticulosis which might have escaped to the eyes of the radiologist. So, it was first reported as malrotation. To my opinion, only diverticulosis might explain your clinical symptoms, even though it might be at the first stages. Diverticulosis is a a condition where small sacs or pouches are being formed along the weak spots of the colon wall. Sometimes, part of intestines are being trapped inside theses spots. Patients might be asymptomatic or feel abdominal pain (cramps) and alteration in bowel movements. This condition involves large bowels and not the intestines (small bowels). Hope it was of help! Brief Answer: Happy to know nothing serious came out... Detailed Answer: Hi back, Thank you for following up. I am glad your Barium test resulted normal with no malrotation. This can calm you down and make you feel at peace that you do not have any serious problem. Now, all the tests you did put me on thoughts: Once it was told malrotation, then, diverticulosis, then, no malrotation and nothing was reported regarding the diverticulosis. It is strange to me. I hope no mistake was done with your lab results. Anyway, I am happy that nothing serious came out. All the best! Dr.Klerida
