What Causes Abdominal Pain Post Abdominal Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: I had a full abdominal hysterectomy 3 months ago - this included complications with severe vomitting from bowel obstruction (I had fibroids, polyp and cyst - hence the full blown hysterectomy). I was hospitalized for a total of 2.5weeks. My concern is that I'm still having abdominal pain. My specialist keeps saying it's just healing, especially seeing the complication I experienced. I would appreciate your thoughts and whether I should be having any further X-ray, ultrasound or scan to see if anything else that may be causing this awful constant pain. Adhesions? My stomach is still incredibly bloated as well and caused weight gain, it's never gone down since the operation. This has now become very hard to deal with. Many thanks.

It says on this page I chose a specialist in Gastro, I chose specialist in gynecology I thought. Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Pain due to healing and fibrosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I am Dr Deepti Verma, OBGYN specialist, answering your query.
The constant pain you are having is most likely the pain caused by healing and fibrosis of the tissues inside after the major surgery.
However, other causes like colitis, urinary tract infection, bowel infection and peritoneal fluid etc should be ruled out.
I will suggest you to get an ultrasound and urine examination done to confirm the diagnosis and get appropriate treatment timely.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
