What Causes Abdominal Pain, Bloating And Flank Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Jan 2015
Question: Hello. I have had,off and on, high blood sugar. I am 56 years old and consider myself to be in excellent health in general (despite a stressful job and a life that has become a bit too sedentary, I will be exercising more in 2015). I am on bioidential hormone therapy(estrogen and natural progesterone). I went for a bone exam a few weeks ago and the doctor was very surprised by my loss of bone density. He told me that something was wrong and that we needed to find out what it was. I did a24 hour urine test and a blood test. The albumin level was low (below the reference range) but so was the serum creatine (bottom of reference range). I do not have the results with me as I am travelling. My TSH was <0.01% although my freeT4 level was normal, indicating subclinical hyperthyroidism. I have read that being hypothyroid can suppress serum creatine and hence distort kidney test results. Also, at my annual medical at te office, they found a small amount of blood in my urine. For ten days now I have had bloating, abdominal pain, and some flank pain. My doctor did a urinalysis and I do not have any infection. I have lost 7 kilos on an already slender frame which may be due to the hypothyroidism. I am very concerned and am thinking that I could have cancer. I am also wondering if I have kidney stones. I drink a lot of green tea but to be XXXXXXX I rarely drink any water. It isvery difficult to get an appointment with a doctor at this time of year so thank you very much for any comments/thoughts you might have.

Brief Answer:
CT scan of whole abdomen

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since you are having abdominal pain, bloating and flank pain along with blood in urine i would advise you to do a CT scan of whole abdomen.

Urinary tract infections, kidney stones and prostate cancer are common reasons for blood in urine.

Since there is no infection in your urine you must go immediately to ER and do a CT scan of whole abdomen and if any lesion is found in the scan then biopsy has to be done to rule out malignancy.
