default
Posted on Thu, 7 Sep 2017
Question: My daughter is experiencing burning pain in her abdomen both sides between ribs and belly button, she gets sweaty and fatigued quickly, pain is brought on by any sort of movement. She had a BM last night but has nothing left in her tummy. Her back is very achy, in the area of her lungs, skin is sensitive to touch and temperature but not everywhere. She vomited last night but is no longer experiencing nausea.

Brief Answer:
May be related to the spine as the most probable cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
Noted the history about your daughter and understood the concerns.
From the history you have provided the possible problem looks to be the following:
The burning pain on both sides of the abdomen, achy back, sensitive skin to touch and temperature indicate that there may be a neurological problem like radiculopathy due to spinal problem in the mid-back or development of Shingles although it occurs on one side only.
The symptoms cause oe to be fatigued and sweaty.
I would advise her the following in such a situation:
Bed rest- least possible movements.
Get a clinical evaluation, examination by your Doctor and to get a proper referral and request for investigations:
MRI of the thoracic spine may be needed.
Close observation for further few days to see if there is any development of rash.
Pancreatitis is very rare in this age group but must be remembered in mind and thus get an ultrasonography and CT scan of the abdomen if required by your Doctor to rule out any intra-abdominal problems.
Further management would be dependant upon the findings on clinical evaluation and reports of investigations.
I hope this answer helps her.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
Please give feedback of the reports and clinical evaluation.
