What Causes Abdominal Pain After Treatment For Sinusitis?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: thanks - on 4/14/14 I got a z-pak 250 mg for a sinus infection. It did not go away - on 4/23/14 I got omnicef 300 mg 2x/day as well as a Medrol Dose Pk 4 mg. I think the infection is gone, but yesterday I felt SO lethargic and had some abdominal pain - not too bad - felt slightly consipated, but I don't think I was. This morning had a BM that was not a lot, but had about 1 TBSP of reddish, maroonish (bloody) mucous. Other that that I feel much better today, although there is still a slight nagging pain in my tummy. *** I also take Florajen 3 ALMOST every day along with an herbal aloe drink. SHould I contact a doctor or just see if things get better or worse? I tend to worry about such things. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
can be drug induced gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

That pain abdomen can be due to drug induced gastritis.

I would suggest that you try taking a ppi like omeprazole or pantaprazole for a day or two and see if it improves or not. If it improves then you need to continue that for a few weeks.

Also that maroonish mucous discharge could be malena (blood from your stomach ulcer due to gastritis). And that too should improve with the ppi.

Hope, i have beeb helpful.

Thank you - so there is no need for alarm, I guess. I will do as you suggested. I am not aware that I have an ulcer, but I think you are saying that it could have been induced by the medication? Also - in your opinion, is it beneficial to take probiotics? thank you so much

Brief Answer:
there is no harm

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Probiotics dont have any adverse effect and are mostly given in bowel infection or loose motions.

You can take them as you are on antibiotics to prevent antibiotics induced diarrhea.
